I am ready for a vacation over here! Less than two weeks until Sheldon and I head to Italy for the first bit of September! I’m so excited! It will be a nice breather from the crazy year we’ve both had! It hasn’t felt “real” until I started the process of packing…and just so you know…I’m not the best packer.
I tend to over-pack, but then I’ll forget and entire category of clothing…like pajamas. The best way for me to avoid these blunders is to pack early and make lists…lots of lists. I thought I’d share this post to talk about my struggles and the resources I used to help me pack like a pro for this Italian adventure!
Growing up, my mom used to make these super-detailed lists with each item we needed to bring, with little check boxes next to them. I have a similar system: I lay out all the stuff I want to bring, then make a list of stuff to pack both now and right before I leave. Unfortunately, I still tend to over-pack, which will not fly for this jetset adventure!
I’m so ready for beautiful Italia, so I’m starting out by focusing on a few must-bring items for the trip, read on to find out what they are!
Sneakers and Comfortable Sandals
These are going to be so important for walking all day around the Vatican and Colosseum. I’m definitely a sandals girl, so I’ll definitely be bringing my comfy Dolce Vita sandals, but for the long walking tours, it’ll be sneakers all the way. I’m bringing my classic Vans and my Pumas, but check out my other picks below!
Light jacket / Cardigan
It’s going to be pretty warm when we’re there (low of 65, high of 90), but I get chilly easily and will definitely be bringing a light jacket and a cardi (or two). I’m bringing my oversized Madwell denim jacket and bringing my pretty BP. cardigans. Check out some more of my picks below!
Denim shorts and basic tees
Purse and Wallet
I’m bringing a little Kate Spade crossbody (this one is similar to the one I have and love) and my Longchamp zippered tote. I also picked up a nice wallet with the RFID protection from Amazon to be safe! My mini crossbody is still big enough to hold my Italian phrasebook and Rick Steves Travel Guide for each city! I’m also going to be super organized by putting important stuff in their own pouches!
Date Night Outfits
Camera and Extra Phone/Camera Batteries
Travel / Packing Inspiration
I feel pretty good about that packing list, but I know I need some insider tips for what to expect…I came upon Alyson Haley of Sequins and Things‘ blog posts about packing for international travel [ here ] and packing for the exact destinations we’re headed to [ here ].
Alyson has some incredible pointers about international travel and travel to Italy, in particular:
- Have important travel documents in a password protected Dropbox folder (like our passports, IDs, travel confirmations)
- Power converters vs. buying small appliances in the country (still trying to figure out what I’m going to do about that!)
- Cobblestone streets are tough for heels and sandals
- Leave your designer stuff at home
If you want to read more from her, definitely check out her posts linked above…SUPER detailed information from an experienced international traveler!
Italy, Here We Come!
Am I missing anything?? Please comment with any tips or your travel must-haves, I’d love to hear them (slash I need help people!). While you’re here, go check out my last post about his perfect boho maxi (definitely coming with me to Italy!) and this post about my perfectly styled pajama top (the pajama top trend is going strong into fall, guys!).
