New Year’s Eve is coming! Time to say good bye to 2017, and get ready for a brand-spanking-new year. I love this holiday so much, it’s almost emotional for me. It’s a great time to reflect on the past year while make plans and goals for the coming one. But before we get to all that, we’ve got to celebrate 2017…with an amazing outfit.
I was not feeling sequins this year. A subtle sparkle is fun, but I’m much more drawn to luxe fabrics and textures for this holiday season. Don’t get me wrong, there’s always room for sparkle, but I was not into it this year. I even ordered a gorgeous dress with sequins that I loved, but it didn’t feel quite right. I put it on, it looked good, but I didn’t have that magical try-on moment where you are doing model turns on an imaginary runway because you’re feeling yourself so damn much. So even though it was pretty, it wasn’t quite right.
PS does anyone else do that? Do little spins in the mirror when trying to find the perfect outfit? That’s definitely my test for whether or not I’ll purchase or keep something…if I’m not auditioning in my head to be America’s Next Top Model, the outfit doesn’t make the cut.
NEW YEAR’S EVE IN A GREEN PLEATED SKIRT
I love a good pleated skirt. I’ve even blogged about a chic black pleated skirt and how versatile it is. I think a good pleated skirt is a staple piece…it can be dressed up like it is here with pumps and a sweater, or dressed down with a graphic tee and sneakers. This emerald velvet pleated skirt is a perfect jewel-tone that is still festive for the holidays but still perfect for New Year’s Eve celebrations. This skirt is a great way to work velvet into your closet in a super chic and classy way.
I found this cropped bell sleeve sweater on the fly, and I LOVE it. It’s fitted and cropped, perfect for a high waisted skirt or pant when your trying to avoid that horrible bunch-up effect that sometimes happens when trying to tuck things in. The bell sleeves are also so pretty and move so well. A perfect basic top to go with this statement skirt.
These gray pumps are so freaking comfortable. They’re a block heel (my fave), and a toned-down version of the V neck pumps that have been everywhere this fall. Still slimming and beautiful, but with a little more staying pattern than the really intense V pumps. This shoe comes in five colors (including a stunning red) and is under $100.
You have GOT to have that perfect utility black bag. That huge bag you throw EVERYTHING in. I’m not saying take that out for New Year’s Eve, I’m just making a general, over-arching statement. I love my Kate Spade bag, and I view NYE as a marathon. I need my big bag for such a long night (I’m getting old), because I need it filled with snacks, makeup touch ups, and 5-hour energy shots. A suitcase is really what I need, but this big bag is socially appropriate so I’ll go with this. If you want a clutch for this look, I would recommend this leopard print clutch or this sparkly envelope clutch for New Year’s Eve and beyond.
